I wanted to share an update about my memoir's progress and give you a behind-the-scenes look at my publishing process.
Where We Are Right Now
Having completed the first round of the publisher’s edits in November, the manuscript is currently with the editor for review. She will then make the second and final round of edits to refine the manuscript further. My editor has promised I will hear back from her sometime in mid-December after which it will take me a month or two to wrap up the final round of publisher edits.
The Editing Saga
In case you’re wondering, let me help clarify the different stages of editing. My editor and I are currently deep in the developmental editing phase. Developmental editing focuses on the big-picture elements—narrative flow, structure, and overall organization. After all the editing has been completed, I assume is when the editor will provide an estimated book launch date as everything will be in Juggernaut’s hands at that point, allowing them to give an accurate estimate. Once my editor and I finish collaborating on the developmental edits, we’ll transition to the technical and detail-oriented copy-editing process. Copy editing is what transforms a manuscript into a polished book.

Title Evolution
Here's a peek into the evolution of my memoir's title:
It Takes A Village: A Memoir of Recovering from a Lifequake
Life Beyond a Lifequake: It Takes a Village
Second Breath
Beyond a Lifequake: It Takes a Village
LIFEQUAKE (with the shout line: A Story of Hope and Humanity)
A quick inside note: a shout line differs from a subtitle. It doesn’t necessarily have to accompany the title but is strategically placed on the book cover, adding an extra layer of meaning and intrigue.
Cover Design: The Visual Story
Juggernaut’s graphic designer is currently working on creating my book’s visual identity. I’ve shared some initial ideas through my editor and am buzzing with excitement (and anticipation) to see the first cover design(s). I promise to share them with all of you when they are ready.
The Publishing Timeline: Patience is King
I recently learned from Juggernaut’s Chief Editor that after copy edits, it takes another 4-6 months until pub day. Honestly? I thank my stars I was ignorant of just how long it takes to publish a book. Chances are I very well might have let my memoir dreams fade into oblivion.
Thank you for walking alongside me, keeping me motivated, and sharing in this publishing adventure.
I await!
